Steering Wheel Locks

UPDATE: The City of Oakdale Police department is now offering free steering wheel locks to Oakdale and Landfall residents for ANY vehicle make, model and ignition-type. Locks are available while supplies last. Thank you to Hyundai Motor America and KIA America for extending this service to our entire community.

To receive a lock, residents can stop by the Police department (1584 Hadley Avenue N) during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM) with proof of residency (photo ID/driver’s license or utility bill) and their vehicle key.

City Council accepted donations of steering wheel locks in July of 2023 from both companies to provide as a means to prevent vehicle thefts. Thefts among Hyundai and KIA models were on the rise due to an easy method to hot-wire them and a security flaw in some models. Since providing the initial donations, thefts of these specific models has decreased.

Questions regarding the steering wheel lock giveaway should be directed to Captain Steve Goodwin at steven.goodwin@oakdalemn.gov.
