Join a librarian from the Oakdale Library for a special preschool story time! We will have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. Walk the 220 acre preserve as much as possible, with the ultimate goal of reaching a total of 200 miles to earn a $40 gift card from Target, Hy-Vee, Kwik Trip or Fleet Farm. Adult Road Trip: Historic Forestville and Mystery CaveWednesday, May 22, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM | Departs from Gladstone Community Education Center Parking Lot (1945 Manton Street, Maplewood, 55109) Venture to southern Minnesota for a day packed with history and geology. First stop is Historic Forestville, a restored 1800 village. During the 1850s-1860s, Forestville had 20 buildings and was a thriving community. Your guided walking tour begins at the visitor center and travels through the garden, kitchen, Meighen family house, offices, and the general store filled with original 19th century merchandise. Following a picnic lunch, it is off to do some exploring underground at Mystery Cave. Mystery Cave is the longest cave in Minnesota. Your guided tour includes the history and geology of the cave and you will see stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, fossils and beautiful underground pools. Bring a light jacket or sweater, as the temperature in the cave is a constant 48 degrees. Wear sturdy shoes with non-skid soles. Register by May 14. $89.

Wetlands and Planting for Clean Water WorkshopPresented by East Metro Water Resource EducationThursday, May 23, 6 - 7:30 PM | Discovery Center This free workshop will teach you about “Planting for Clean Water” as well as what makes our wetlands so special and important. Learn about unique plants and animals found in wetlands, invasive species, and rules that affect what landowners can and cannot do with wetlands. Workshop will include a short walk outdoors to nearby wetlands, so please dress appropriately. Free.
