Recreation's full summer newsletter, with even more adult and family programming, is coming soon. The pages will be inside the next Oakdale Update magazine, mailed to Oakdale homes and posted online in late May.

Reserve a picnic shelter for your graduation party, shower, birthday, reunion, or other celebration! Call 651-747-3860 to check availability and make a reservation. Rental fees are due at the time of booking.

Librarian reads to kids

Library Story Time | "Family"

Wednesday, May 29 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center
 
A Washington County Youth Librarian will be visiting for a special preschool story time! We’ll have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

Small World Camps (Ages 3 to 6)

Monday to Thursday | 10 to 11:30 AM

Campers play games, create arts and crafts, and participate in special events for each weekly theme. 

June 10 to 13: Pirates and Mermaids at Oakfield Park

June 17, 18, and 20*: Yee Haw!* at Eberle Park

June 24 to 27: Nick Jr. Days at Oakdale Nature Preserve, 4609 Granada Ave N

Register before the deadline one week prior to camp. $30 per week, per child. *The week of June 17, 18, and 20 is $22.50 (3 days).

Horseback Riding at Bunker Park Stable (Ages 8 to 16)

Thursday, June 13 | 10 AM to 2:30 PM | Depart and Return at Discovery Center

Travel to Bunker Park Stable for a day of riding horses. The trip departs from the Discovery Center and includes horseback ride, barn tour, horse grooming, chaperone and transportation. Participants must be at least eight years old and at least 52 inches tall, no exceptions. You must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes (no shorts or sandals). Bring a nut-free bagged lunch. Space is limited. Registration deadline is one week prior to trip. $75.

Tennis Camp

June 17, 18, 20 and 21 | 9 AM to 12 PM | Eastside Park

Whether your child is a beginner or intermediate player, this program will improve their game and encourage enjoyment from tennis. The program focuses on skill refinement as well as practice and match play to develop consistent, well-rounded players. Staff will also instill positive life skills such as respect and sportsmanship. Participants will be grouped by age and ability. Registration required by June 13. $139.

KidCreate Studio: Watermelon Slime (Ages 4 to 9)

Friday, June 21 | 9 AM to 12 PM | Discovery Center

What’s messier than a slice of juicy watermelon? Watermelon slime! Artists will create their own slime that looks like goopy, gloopy, drippy watermelon with seeds and all. Dress for a mess. Please pack a drink and nut free snack for your child. Deadline to register is one week prior to class. $43.

Learn to Kayak

Learn to Kayak (Level 1) | Thursday, May 30 | 4:30 to 6 PM OR 6:15 to 7:45 PM | Silver Lake, North St. Paul

Kayak Adventure (Level 2) | Tuesday, June 11 | 6 to 8 PM | Lake Demontreville, Lake Elmo

Learn basic kayak skills such as paddling. Kayaks and life jackets are provided. Wear shoes that can get wet. Dress in layers. $30 per person per single kayak. Must be at least 12 years old to participate. Register to kayak before the deadline one week prior to class.

Community Walk

Walk your way to less stress, lower weight, better health, and great rewards! It’s easy! Oakdale residents walk the 200-acre preserve as much as possible, with the ultimate goal of reaching a total of 150 miles.

ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS

Adult Yoga

Oakdale welcomes Jen Vail, registered yoga teacher, trainer and certified Pilates instructor, to the Discovery Center! Jen was most recently the director and founder of YogaFresh in Woodbury, MN from 2007-2023. Her unique offerings have different focus areas and are accessible for all experience levels. She strives to create a non-judgmental, fun and safe environment to explore the benefits of yoga, barre and Pilates. Learn more at http://www.jenvail.com/. 

Registration deadline is prior to class/session start. 

Drop-in for a single class is $20 if space is available (cash or check only for evening/weekend classes). Please arrive at least ten minutes prior to class when dropping in. 

Morning Yoga | Tuesdays| 9:30 to 10:30 AM

Session 3: May 14 to June 11 | 5 weeks | $83

Rise and shine with intention. Experience a customizable and dynamic yoga practice designed to build strength, develop balance, and increase mobility and mindfulness. This all-levels class encourages participants to move at their own pace to explore shapes in a safe and sustainable way that will support a healthy range of motion and a more fulfilling practice experience.  

Twilight Yoga | Thursdays | 6 to 7 PM

Session 3: May 16 to June 13 | 5 weeks | $83

Wind down your day in the glow of twinkling lights. Explore a gentler flow designed to melt away tension with mindful movements to increase strength, balance, flexibility and relaxation in a sustainable way. This all-levels class will illuminate your intentions and calm your nervous system with minimal weight-bearing on the wrists to prepare you for a good night sleep.

Discovery Center

Join local artist Sandy Danus of Cheerful Hearts Studio as she leads you through a fun and inviting, acrylic paint class. Learn a new skill and have a great time! All supplies are included and our cheerful, step by step instruction is easy to follow, even if you have never picked up a paint brush before. Come away with your own beautiful finished canvas creation that you can be proud of. $30 per class. Register before the deadline one week prior to class. Upcoming Classes:

Adult Pickleball Lessons

Select Wednesdays | 6 to 7 PM | Tanners Park Pickleball Courts 

Learn the basics of pickleball. Equipment is provided, but indicate at registration if you need equipment. $30 per session. Registration deadline is one week prior to start of session, or when full.

Oakdale Wellness 50+

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is a volunteer initiative making Oakdale and Washington County healthier by offering health-focused activities for persons 50 and over that lead to measurably improved wellness. 

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is supported by Washington County, the City of Oakdale, and the Vital Aging Network (VAN).

WALKS AT THE OAKDALE NATURE PRESERVE | Wednesdays at 9 AM | No registration is necessary to join these weekly walks. Meet in front of the Discovery Center. 

VEGETABLE GARDENING 101 | Thursday, May 9 | 1 to 2:30 PM | Discovery Center | Chris White, a Washington County Master Gardener, will give a presentation on vegetable gardening. She has over 40 years of gardening experience to share. All levels of experience are welcome. Register on Meetup.
