Paul Bunyan Snow Sculpture

Snow Sculpture Contest

Oakdale residents submit your snow sculpture now through March 31, 2024
 
Calling all creative Oakdale residents. Do you have what it takes to create the best snow sculpture in Oakdale? If so, head outside any time after a snowfall, and start constructing your masterpiece. All sculptures are judged on appearance, relative to the season’s theme.  

This year’s theme is “Snow Animals”

Please submit photo entries by March 31. Winning sculpture will receive a themed winter prize basket!

Ice Rinks & Warming Houses

Rinks are scheduled to be open through late February (weather permitting) 
 
Maintained, supervised rinks with heated warming houses are located at Eastside and Walton Parks. The rink at Northdale Park will not open this season.

Snowshoe Rental

Rentals available daily pending snow conditions, during building hours | Discovery Center
 
Take your family and friends snowshoeing in the 200 acres of the Oakdale Nature Preserve. Watch for animal tracks, deer, fox, and birds, even snowshoe angels! Sizes available for both children and adults. $6, tax included, per person for a two hour rental.  Cash or check only on weekends.

Library Story Time | "Colors"

Wednesday, February 28 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center
 
A Washington County Youth Librarian will be visiting for a special preschool story time! We’ll have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

Put Some Run in Your Life

Saturday, February 17 | 10:30 AM to 12 PM | Discovery Center

Whether you are just getting started running or want to run a marathon, this new course offers guidance for runners and exercisers of all levels. Marathon runner and Ironman athlete Bob Follensbee will cover basic principles of exercise science, tools to measure base fitness, and steps to create a running program. The course will emphasize running but is applicable to other endurance sports. Mental training tips are included.  $23. Registration deadline is February 10.

Adult Yoga

Oakdale welcomes Jen Vail, registered yoga teacher and trainer and certified Pilates instructor, to the Discovery Center! Jen was most recently the director and founder of YogaFresh in Woodbury, MN from 2007-2023. Her unique offerings have different focus areas and are accessible for all experience levels. She strives to create a non-judgmental, fun and safe environment to explore the benefits of yoga, barre and Pilates. Learn more at http://www.jenvail.com/. 

Registration deadline is one week prior to class/session start. 

Drop-in for a single class is $20 if space is available (cash or check only for evening/weekend classes). Please arrive at least ten minutes prior to class when dropping in. 

Morning Yoga | Tuesdays| 9:30 to 10:30 AM

Session 1: February 20 to March 19 | 5 weeks | $83

Rise and shine with intention. Experience a customizable and dynamic yoga practice designed to build strength, develop balance, and increase mobility and mindfulness. This all-levels class encourages participants to move at their own pace to explore shapes in a safe and sustainable way that will support a healthy range of motion and a more fulfilling practice experience.  

Twilight Yoga | Thursdays | 6 to 7 PM

Session 1: February 22 to March 14 | 4 weeks | $67

Wind down your day in the glow of twinkling lights. Explore a gentler flow designed to melt away tension with mindful movements to increase strength, balance, flexibility and relaxation in a sustainable way. This all-levels class will illuminate your intentions and calm your nervous system with minimal weight-bearing on the wrists to prepare you for a good night sleep. 

Roll and Release: Foam Rolling 

Pop Up Class: Saturday, March 2 | 12:30 to 1:30 PM | $20

Take the next step in your wellness journey or complement an existing movement routine with foam rolling and gentle stretches. This all-levels class uses self-myofascial techniques to increase your overall mobility and flexibility to reduce muscle tension and melt away stress. Feel better faster and reduce muscle soreness as we work through chronically tight areas of the body without the spa-like price tag of a deep-tissue massage. Bring your yoga mat and we provide the foam rollers to use during class.

Discovery Center

Join local artist Sandy Danus of Cheerful Hearts Studio as she leads you through a fun and inviting, acrylic paint class. Learn a new skill and have a great time! All supplies are included and our cheerful, step by step instruction is easy to follow, even if you have never picked up a paint brush before. Come away with your own beautiful finished canvas creation that you can be proud of. $30 per class. Upcoming Classes:

Oakdale Wellness 50+

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is a volunteer initiative making Oakdale and Washington County healthier by offering health-focused activities for persons 50 and over that lead to measurably improved wellness. 

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is supported by Washington County, the City of Oakdale, and the Vital Aging Network (VAN).

WALKS AT THE OAKDALE NATURE PRESERVE | Wednesdays at 10 AM | No registration is necessary to join these weekly walks. Meet in front of the Discovery Center. 

ESSENTRICS® CLASSICAL STRETCH | Thursdays through March 28 | 10 AM | Discovery Center | No registration is necessary to join this free, weekly drop-in stretch and strength class. 

WELLNESS MOVIE CLUB: Nomadland | Tuesday, February 27 | 12:30 PM | Oakdale Library | Email oakdalewellness50new@gmail.com to join.
