Family Fun Activities

A group plays bingo while eating ice cream.

Sundae Bingo

Sunday, November 14 | 1 to 3 PM | Discovery Center
 
All ages welcome! What could be better than ice cream sundaes and two hours of bingo!? Join us for this fun-filled Sunday afternoon. Make your own ice cream sundae while shouting out BINGO! Prizes are awarded to winners of every game. All participants will be eligible for the grand prize raffle drawing at the end of the event (must be present to win the raffle). Deadline to register is November 7. $8.

Kids explore outside in early winter

Curious Critters Club (Ages 3 to 6)

Select Friday mornings | 9:30 to 11 AM | Discovery Center

Children participate in nature themed discussions, play games, watch DVDs, and create projects. Register one week prior to class! $8 per class.

Santa's mailbox

Letters to Santa

Soon after Thanksgiving through December 19, 2021 | Mailbox locations at City Hall and Discovery Center

Watch for Santa's magical red mailboxes to appear at the Discovery Center and at City Hall soon after Thanksgiving! Write Santa a letter and deposit your letter in his mailbox. Let him know whether you have been a little naughty or a lot nice and include your wish list! Please include your full name, age, and address in your letter.

We’ll discuss the pros and cons of keeping chickens, highly efficient coop design and costs, ordinance compliance, neighbors, and where to get chickens. Come learn dozens of tips, tricks, and techniques to make it easy, efficient, safe, sanitary, odor free, solve rooster noise problems, egg storage, low cost, and an efficient coop construction designed precisely for Minnesota winters that always stays above freezing (no heating of water, no frozen eggs) for $5 to $10 per year. Shop local! Over 20 local vendors offer a unique variety of items including baked goods, meats, canned goods, artisan foods, sweets, salsas, strudels, jewelry, essential oils and much more! Forest Therapy Walks

Saturdays, November 6 and 20 | 10 AM to 12 PM | Oakdale Nature Preserve

What is Forest Therapy? Forest Therapy, or “forest bathing,” is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition. Forest therapy walks are slow-paced and are leisurely guided through nature by certified forest therapy guides. Attend in-person or virtually. Spots are limited, masks can be worn (subject to applicable federal/state/local mask mandate guidelines), and please arrive early for in-person. $20 per class (50% discount for frontline workers).

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is a volunteer initiative making Oakdale and Washington County healthier by offering health-focused activities for persons 50 and over that lead to measurably improved wellness.

Painting Class | Snowman & Moon

Friday, November 12 | 1 to 3 PM | Discovery Center
 
Join local artist Sandy Danus of Cheerful Hearts Studio as she leads you through a fun and inviting, acrylic paint class. Learn a new skill and have a great time! All supplies are included and our cheerful, step by step instruction is easy to follow, even if you have never picked up a paint brush before. Come away with your own beautiful finished canvas creation that you can be proud of. Deadline to register is one week prior to class. $30.
