Neighborhood Watch Program

The Oakdale Police Department is reviving its Neighborhood Watch program following the COVID-19 pandemic and staffing changes within the Department. With public safety concerns on the rise, a Neighborhood Watch program gives residents a feeling of responsibility for safety in their community and builds relationships among neighbors.

What are the benefits of Neighborhood Watch?

A Neighborhood Watch program promotes an “all hands on deck” approach to safety connecting residents, police and other law enforcement agencies to reduce crime and develop a greater sense of safety in the community. It addresses many topics including calls for service, suspicious activity, public safety, frauds and scams, driving complaints, vacation checks and more.

I am interested. What should I do?

If you’re interested in creating a Neighborhood Watch group or reviving an old one, here are some steps you should take:

  • Have conversations with your neighbors to gauge interest.
  • Reach out to the Police Department to receive more information on creating a group.
  • Determine if you or someone else will take on the role of Neighborhood Captain.
  • Plan your first meeting!  The Police Department helps interested groups plan their first meetings for early spring.
